Happy happy Christmas to you all! I thought I’d schedule in a little Christmas treat doing the festivities…
This is the first time I’ve been asked to cover proposal photography, and I have to say that if ever I decide to join MI5 it was a decent first training day! Being the undercover photographer, supposedly taking some unobtrusive shots of a family day out whilst knowing the Big Secret, was such fun to be a part of. James wanted to surprise Donna and the children with a mystery trip to Blenheim Palace to see the festive light trail, but also arranged for the Temple of Diana (where Winston Churchill proposed to Clemmie) to be opened and covered in flowers and candles. It was so beautifully decorated by Joanna Carter Flowers, with pine swags and white roses, lanterns, Christmassy baubles, and even sweetie baskets for the children. Chilled champagne and lemonade was there waiting, too. James asked if I might get there first to take some behind-the-scenes photographs of the setting-up so that they could remember it all.
We ended up with such a wet, dark and grey December day that it was perfect to have the candlelit, welcoming temple as a refuge from the rain. The look on Donna’s face when James got down on one knee, and presented the ring, and then the look on the children’s faces, are just priceless – what a privilege to capture all of these once-in-a-lifetime reactions! Grateful thanks to Emma, events coordinator at Blenheim Palace for her managing the group emails in preparation!
For those of you who are celebrating a Christmas engagement, or in the middle of planning your wedding for the coming year, I wish you so much happiness!
